Their story
The clinical trial landscape is evolving, with growing demand for faster, more efficient data collection to support drug development. Traditional data management processes can be costly, slow, and prone to errors, creating delays in bringing new treatments to market.
Founded in 2005 by Mike Novotny, Medrio set out to address these challenges by providing an intuitive electronic data capture (EDC) platform for clinical trials. Built with a focus on ease of use and reliability, Medrio enables sponsors and contract research organizations (CROs) to streamline trial execution, reduce costs, and improve data quality. The company has built a strong reputation as a nimble and trusted partner in clinical research.

Our partnership
Before our investment in 2017, Medrio’s growth was primarily self-funded, demonstrating its ability to scale efficiently while maintaining a strong presence in the market. We identified Medrio as an attractive platform through our proactive thesis in clinical trial technology companies and the continued digitization of the research environment. Over a five-year effort of building a relationship with the company and its founder, we were impressed with their growing leadership in early phase clinical trials.
Since investing, we have supported the company’s transition from an entrepreneur-led business to a professionally managed, institutionally backed organization. Our partnership continues to focus on strengthening Medrio’s market position and advancing its mission to improve clinical trial efficiency.
