Investment to Support Continued Innovation and National Expansion of Integrated Care Model for Autism

SAN DIEGO, CA—Cortica Inc. (“Cortica”), a leading provider of advanced neurological therapies for children with autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions, announced today an equity investment led by Questa Capital Management with participation by Aperture Venture Partners.  The investment will be used to accelerate the rollout of the company’s comprehensive care model for autism nationally and support ongoing technological innovation around clinical care delivery and the patient experience.  Cortica is led by its co-founders, CEO Neil Hattangadi, M.D. and Chief Medical Officer Suzanne Goh, M.D.  Dr. Hattangadi is an experienced healthcare operating executive who most recently served as President/COO of Spirox (acquired by Entellus Medical), and previously founded and led the Peripheral Vascular business at Volcano Corporation and Royal Philips. Dr. Goh is a pediatric neurologist, author, and neuroscience researcher who previously served as co-director of Columbia University’s autism treatment program in New York City.

With autism diagnoses increasing in recent years, the average demand for treatment is 18x greater than the available supply of caregivers, based on a 2017 study published by the Stanford University School of Medicine1. Cortica has developed a more comprehensive treatment model addressing multiple domains of autism care based on years of clinical research and practice by Dr. Goh and other Cortica clinical leaders. Cortica’s multi-dimensional care model incorporates the best evidence-based therapies in neurophysiology, biochemistry, sensorimotor integration, communication, cognition and behavior to create a comprehensive roadmap for a child with autism and their family.

“Since establishing Cortica in 2014, we have attracted families from around the world to our clinics in Southern California who are seeking an expert, integrated team to provide comprehensive care for their child with neurodevelopmental conditions. We are excited to partner with Questa to support our continued innovation and to expand our footprint to meet more of the local and national need,” commented Dr. Hattangadi. “We are thrilled to have partners with such a deep understanding of autism and a great appreciation for our patient-centric mission.”

“Neil, Suzanne and their team have done a remarkable job building Cortica into a leading autism treatment provider,” said Ryan Drant, Founder and Managing Director of Questa Capital. “With a unique integrated care model staffed by world renowned clinicians serving the most challenging patients, Cortica is providing a critical service to families, and we are honored to serve as their partner in building a great company to address this underserved need.”

“After studying the autism market for years, we have been impressed with Cortica’s commitment to clinical excellence and differentiated approach to achieving transformative patient outcomes,” remarked Brad Sloan, Managing Director of Questa Capital. “Given our deep healthcare experience, we are excited to assist the Cortica team to execute on its vision to revolutionize autism care by providing an innovative and comprehensive set of in-clinic, in-home and tele-health solutions to children and their families.” 1
